CAST OF RE-MISSION 2017

M E E T  T H E  S U R V I O R
C R I S T Y  M U M P H R E Y

 Cristy is a resident of Denham Springs, LA, a graduate of Live Oak High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Accounting as well as a minor in Business Management. Cristy is the amazing wife of her high school sweetheart, Craig Mumphrey, and the mother of two wonderful children; a 16 year old daughter and a 11 year old son. On the weekends you can usually find all of them outdoors doing some of the things that they love: baseball, soccer, boating, hiking, kayaking or camping. Although Cristy loves the outdoors, what she desires most in life is for others to see the love and joy of our Savior, Jesus Christ when they look at her. Cristy is beautiful inside and out.. For The Love Of Dance is so honored to present her personal story, in our upcoming event REMISSION.  

MEET THE PERFORMERS

ALYSSA BRAUD

Alyssa Braud was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is currently in her junior year at LSU where she is majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Dance. In her fourteen years of dance experience, she has performed in many different shows including several with Cangelosi Dance Project, Kick it Out with OMC, Debbie Allen’s Pepito’s Story, Uncommon Thread: Epilogue, Modern in Motion II at NSU, NSU’s Christmas Gala, and The Giving Tree at NSU. She was accepted into the American Ballet Theatre summer program at age 13 and has taken class with teachers around the U.S. including Nan Giordano, Susan Quinn Williams, Leslie Scott and many more. Alyssa is very excited to continue broadening her dance experience by performing with For The Love of Dance.

JESSICA PENOUILH

Jessica is a sophomore and honor student at BRMHS. She has been dancing since she was four years old and a member of the Jete’ Dance Company Competition team for 6 years.  For the last two years she has performed a contemporary solo and placed at both Regionals and Nationals.  Jessica appreciates the opportunity to work under the direction of Shamira and perform with For the Love of Dance.  

RIAN ALLEN

Rian Allen is a 20 year old professional dancer, dance instructor from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  She began dancing at the age of 2 at Shelly’s Dance studio in Zachary, LA. Afterwards she became a part of the dance program at BREC in Baker, LA for 2 years under the direction of Patricia Arlington training in ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop.  Then, she attended McKinley Middle Magnet school for Visual and Performing arts studying under Ms. Robbie Thomas for 3 years.  Rian has also performed in productions such as the Debbie Allen dance residencies Just Dance, All the Right Moves and New Venture Theatre’s Step off.  Afterwards she attended McKinley Sr. High School dancing under Mrs. Laurie Minarick for 4 years where she was apart of the performance dance ensemble. While attending Mckinley high Rian was a member of the Blue Diamonds Basketball dance team for 1 year and the Pantherettes dance team for 3 years, serving as captain her junior and senior year. Following high school Rian attended Southern University studying business management. She is now a member of the Pelicans Dance Team and teaching a variety of dance styles at Celerity Schools Louisiana.

GRACE ACEVEDO

Grace is a sophomore honors student at Baton Rouge Magnet High School where she is a member of the National Honors Society and Junior Classical League.  She has studied ballet for 13 years and is currently a member of the Baton Rouge Ballet company.  She has performed in many BRBT productions, most recently in company roles as snowflake, Chinese, angel and azalea flower in the December 2016 Nutcracker -- a Tale from the Bayou.  She has studied at ABT Austin TX and Ballet Magnificat in Jackson MS.  When she is not dancing, Grace enjoys babysitting and being with friends.

CHRISTIAN SIMON

Christian Simon graduated with honors from LSU with a B.A in Theatre Performance and a minor in Dance. While there she was an officer for the Legacy Dance Team, President of the Dance Ambassadors, and a dancer for the Dance Ensemble. She won the NewV award for Outstanding Featured Dancer in 2014 and recently choreographed their season 10 Opener: BLACK NATIVITY. In 2015 she choreographed NVT'S production of SHOUT and guest choreographed for New Venture Movement's shows Abstraction and Soul. That same year she launched a youth and adult dance program at the Paula G. Manship YMCA. This year she had the pleasure of being a principal dancer in the remake of ROOTS. She would like to thank Shamira for this amazing opportunity.  

LAKIA HAYNES

Lakia Haynes is a 20 year-old Social Work major at Southern University in Baton Rouge. Beginning her dance career at a young age, Lakia first started dancing at Dance By Trudy. She was then largely encouraged and instructed by Robbye Thomas at McKinley Middle Magnet School. Now, Lakia is the coach of the McKinley Senior High School Blue Diamondz dance team. Also, Lakia attended McKinley High and performed on the McKinley Pantherette dance team. She served as co-captain for her last year of all three spent on the team. Most recently, Lakia has appeared at Southern University sporting events as a Southern University Gold 'n' Bluez dancer. She enjoys striving to perfect her art and performing to share it with others. 

SARAH ALEXANDRA PERKINS

Sarah is a 19 year old LSU sophomore majoring in Cultural Anthropology. She began dancing at 3 years old at Missy Zeno's School of Dance. She attended 2M's School of Dance for five years, training in ballet, tap, and jazz. Sarah has performed in five productions of Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker, and performed with the BRBT company for one year. She has also attended The Joffrey Ballet School and Nashville Ballet summer intensives. Sarah was a McKinley Senior High School Pantherette for two years and served as co-captain during her second year. At McKinley High, she also trained under the instruction of Laurie Minarik for three years and performed in the dance ensemble. Sarah now teaches ballet at Winter Dance Company.

DARREN SMITH JR

Darren Smith Jr, 19, is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He has been dancing since the sixth grade and has a background in jazz, contemporary, modern, ballet, and hip hop. He began his dance training at McKinley Middle Magnet where he took dance classes, and performed in the musical theatre program in shows such as Thoroughly Modern Millie as Ching Ho, and Into the Woods as Jack. Darren has also performed at the Walt Disney World Theme Park in Orlando, Florida as a part of the Disney Magic Music Days. Outside of school he has performed in five Debbie Allen Dance Residencies that include Just Dance, All the Right Moves, Derek’s Song: Here’s to Life, Brothers of the Knight, and lastly Pepito’s Story. Darren is a graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School where he was trained under the Direction of Mrs. Sharon Mathews, and Rebecca Acosta. While furthering his training in ballet, he trained at Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre and performed in many of their productions such as 2011 The Nutcracker: A Tale on the Bayou as Fritz, and Chef; as well as touring with the summer youth ballet show Graduation Ball. Darren’s most recent stage performance was performing in the New Venture Theatre’s show Love Whitney 2014. Darren is currently a sophomore Mass Communications major at Southern University and A&M College. He is a member of the Student Government Association, Public Relations Students Society of America, and a Fall 2016 initiate in the Epsilon Rho Chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon Professional Fraternity Inc. In his spare time he loves to return to his Alma Mater and teach free dance classes, as well as serve as one of the coaches of the McKinley High School Blue Diamondz Dance Team. After college, Darren plans on pursuing a career as a Public Relations Specialist that specializes in political campaign strategies. Darren is thankful for all of the experience in dance that he has had this far, and wants to thank his family, friends, and most importantly God for giving him the gift of spreading love through dance.

CLAIRE BROYLES

Claire Broyles, a NYC native, has trained at Ballet Hispanico, Steps on Broadway and Neubert Ballet. She holds a B.A. from Skidmore College and a M.S. from Boston University. She is a licensed physical therapist and certified Pilates instructor. Since moving to Baton Rouge in 2006, Claire has performed with Cangelosi Dance Project, Of Moving Colors and Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre. She has also participated in several local fundraising events including Dancing for Big Buddy and Dancing for a Cause.

LEONARD AUGUSTUS JR

is a native of Baton Rouge, graduate of Southern University, acclaimed dancer, singer, actor, and choreographer.  His dance training originated with The Dancer’s Workshop (Home of the Baton Rouge Ballet) and expanded by attending annual workshops sponsored by Southwest Dance Conferences where renowned choreographers and teachers offer summer instruction.  His community mentoring efforts bring dance/theatre performance and experiences to underserved children and adults, in addition to bringing professional dancers and non-dancers together. This January 28th performance marks the anniversary of his mother’s death and end of her battle with cancer.  He understands and is honored to offer himself in this effort to fight, educate, and confront the decease, while at the same time, giving what he has left to consoling and strengthening families affected by the battle.  

DYLON HOFFPAUIR

Dylon Hoffpauir is a 2014 graduate of LSU where he studied dance and physical theatre. During his time at LSU, Dylon performed in the LSU Dance Ensemble and shows in the Baton Rouge community. He was an LSU Cheerleader, and taught cheerleading technique and tumbling for 5 years. He performed as a "Barden University Cheerleader" in Pitch Perfect 2, and has appeared as a cheerleader and dancer A&E's "Breakout Kings" and WGN's "Underground". Most recently, Dylon worked in entertainment at Walt Disney World Parks & Resorts and SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. 

ERIN BUCHHOLZ

Erina Buchholz is a 16-year-old junior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School. She began playing the violin at age six and currently studies with Borislava Iltcheva. She serves as concertmaster of the BRMHS Advanced Orchestra and the Louisiana Youth Orchestra. Erina was also selected as concertmaster of the Louisiana All-State Orchestra in 2014, 2015, and 2016. She has performed as a soloist with the Acadiana Symphony and Louisiana Youth Orchestra. She won the state level of the Music Teachers National Association competition in 2015. Erina has attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival in Sewanee, Tennessee, and the Ferme de Villefavard Summer Music Academy in Limousin, France, where she studied with world-class pedagogue Mauricio Fuks.
